At Lansweeper, we want to use the latest, most performant, and the most secure technologies for our software. That’s why starting December 2019, Lansweeper will no longer support Windows Vista & Windows Server 2008 as operating systems to install Lansweeper on. Though Lansweeper will still be able to scan these OS on client machines. Windows Vista Support has already been ended by Microsoft in 2017, while support for Windows Server 2008 will be ending January 2020.
Once an operating system enters extended support, it’s still safe to use. It means that Microsoft will continue to patch any security threats but won’t add any new features (as it would do during the ‘mainstream support’ phase).
However once extended support is over, Microsoft stops issuing security updates for that operating system. Even if substantial security holes are found in them, which means you’re more vulnerable to cyber threats.
When Microsoft ends support for an operating system, that’s also a signal to other software and hardware companies. That’s why Lansweeper will no longer support Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008.
Windows Vista
Microsoft ended mainstream support for Windows Vista on April 10, 2012, while extended support ended on April 11, 2017.

Windows Server 2008
Windows Server 2008 is approaching the end of the support lifecycle in January 2020. This means that as of then, there will be no additional security updates, free support options, and online technical content updates.
