Developed by Google’s Chrome development version Chrome OS, Chromium OS is a Linux-based operating distribution system whose first source code was published in 2009. Chromium OS is basically an open-source operating system that is designed for browsing the World Wide Web and running web applications.
Chromium OS is similar to Chrome OS and is designed with a web browser engine oriented towards running web-based applications instead of desktop or mobile applications. Based on the monolithic Linux kernel, Chromium OS features a user interface which is a Chromium-based browser. Currently, Chromium OS is in a working state and comes preinstalled in Google’s Chromebooks, Chromeboxes, Chromebit, and Chromebase.
