January 2021 release adds credential-free device recognition to our core discovery technology.
Our latest 8.2.100 release extends and enhances Lansweeper’s core IT discovery capabilities by adding the final piece of the puzzle: unique device recognition technology.
The newly added device-recognition technology turns network data, such as a MAC address, into a specific device providing accurate type, model, and OS specs with an unmatched level of precision. Combined with our best-in-class agentless scanning technology – both passive via Asset Radar and active scanning – the latest release now results in 80+ new device types and improved device categorization, all adding up to better inventory accuracy.
„Combining this unique Device Recognition capability with our unmatched, agentless discovery capability is an important step in realizing our ITAM 2.0 Vision – to enable every organization to manage and secure their IT infrastructure by understanding their IT estate.“
Dave Goossens, CEO at Lansweeper
The Challenges of IT and IoT
The International Data Corporation (IDC) predicts there will be more than 41 billion connected/IoT devices by 2025, with demand rising for smart applications and wearable devices. However, more than half of businesses have no idea how many devices are connected to their company network or accessing corporate resources from a home network; putting them at great risk of unauthorized access, data theft, and potential malware and ransomware attacks.
Every new device added to a network brings with it a responsibility to properly identify and manage new security vulnerabilities, and companies need to address these concerns as the number of connected devices rapidly increases. With this integration, we’re bringing unique device recognition into the fold to really make our vision of ITAM 2.0 come to life for businesses worldwide.
We recently acquired Fing – leader in device recognition – and now we’re excited to take the first step towards full integration. With powerful credential-free device recognition and a load of additional improvements, now’s a great time to start your free trial or to update your installation.
