Audit All Outdated Firefox Installations in Your Network
Mozilla released its new versions Firefox 115, Firefox 102.13, and Firefox ESR 115.0esr with additional functionality and security fixes on the 4th of July, 2023. These releases contain some major changes.
Firefox 115 is the last version that will support Windows 7 and Windows 8. Users of these operating systems will automatically be migrated to the ESR 115 version of Firefox so they will continue to receive important security updates. Firefox ESR 115 will be rolled out over the next 3 months. Until September, Mozilla will continue to release security fixes for Firefox ESR 102 as well. The change also means that Firefox’s extended support release (ESR) jumps from version 102 to version 115. The 115 release includes all enhancements made since Firefox 102 as well as new features to make enterprise deployments easier and more flexible. New features in Firefox 115 include:
The option to bring over payment methods you’ve saved in Chrome-based browsers to Firefox when migrating.
Hardware video decoding is enabled for Intel GPUs on Linux.
Close buttons in the Tab Manager dropdown, so you can close tabs more quickly.
A refreshed and streamlined user interface for importing data from other browsers.
Users without platform support for H264 video decoding can now fall back to Cisco’s OpenH264 plugin for playback.
Windows Magnifier now follows the text cursor correctly when the Firefox title bar is visible.
Windows users on low-end/USB wifi drivers and with OS geolocation disabled can now approve geolocation on a case-by-case basis without causing system-wide network instability.
The new releases also come with the usual security fixes, in this case, 13 in both Firefox 115 and Firefox ESR 115.0 and 5 in Firefox ESR 102.13. 4 issues received a high severity rating. They are 2 use-after-free vulnerabilities (CVE-2023-37201 and CVE-2023-37202) and 2 memory safety bugs (CVE-2023-37211 and CVE-2023-37212).
